Artist Statement

The visionary artwork of Abram Sudan stems from a free-flow consciousness of dreamlike surrealism, finding a balance between the trifecta of Visual Arts, Music and Movement to explore the mysteries and curiosities of our universe. You can find him at many music and art events, live-painting with mostly acrylics, though he has a strong passion for oil paints and working in the Gallery. With a refined palette and passion for mixing and layering colors, his Paintings try to capture not only the unique, beautiful and cute subject matter, but also the unseen connections that hold us all together.

Artist Bio

With a long list of previous residents’ and worldly travels, Abram has studied art in Santa Fe, Denver, New York and Amsterdam but found a love for West Michigan and a proud owner of a business in Grand Rapids. DreamPirate Gallery is a Community Gallery and Consignment shop hosting Monthly featured artists, live music, and a mobile festival experience to encourage the creative spirit to thrive. With bi weekly art nights, events and spontaneous pop ups, it is never a dull moment in the Life of Abram and those in his Circle. Surrounded by Fire Spinners, Musicians and Talented Artists, he is blessed to serve his Tribe and takes honor in creating and holding space for other creatives to Flourish.

Description

The unknown is always a mystery until we pull back the veil. This series came to life after accidentally receiving an order of black gesso, opening a portal into new techniques and process experimentation, along with new materials and motivations. By exploring the realms of space and marine-scapes, creating an environment with dream-like ambiguity, we can challenge and strengthen our perceptions of Reality, Spirituality, and Humanity by acknowledging the wonder of the far reaches of our existence.

Note: You must register to vote/scan your first entry within the ArtPrize district boundaries. Voting is open from September 14 – September 28. You can register as early as Sept 7, 2023, but votes don’t count until the event starts (Sept 14th @ 5 p.m.).

Vote for all entries during Round 1 to help decide the Top 25 Public Finalists. In Round 2, you’ll vote again to choose the winners from among this group. The Artist with the most votes wins the $125,000 Public Vote Grand Prize, followed by the second-place entry awarded $50,000 and the third-place entry awarded $25,000.
